Signs of nocturnal breathing disturbance

These can be suggestive of having a compromised airway, not necessarily indicative of sleep apnea or airway dysfunction.

  • Snoring 

  • Witnessed pauses in breathing

  • Breathing with mouth open day or night

  • Grinding or clenching teeth day or night

  • Bedwetting in children past age 4

  • Sucking thumb

  • Biting on fingernails

  • Sleeping on stomach

  • Night terrors in children

  • Enlarged tonsils

  • Chronic nasal congestion

  • Waking up with dry mouth

  • Nocturia (waking up to pee at night)

If you have any of these signs or symptoms, consider doing a home sleep test or having your provider order you one.
